Although many people have never even heard of the condition, it’s name has continued to evolve over the years as we learn more about it. Caridometabolic syndrome has evolved in name as we have learned more about it.
It really started with the term insulin resistance, which is really only a portion of the syndrome. Insulin resistance is the condition when cells become reistant to the uptake of blood sugar (glucose).
Over time, the name evolved into Syndrome X. Syndrome X was used as more knowledge came out. The understanding that insulin resistance was but a part of the condition.
More recently, the name evolved into Metabolic Syndrome. Although still debated, metabolic syndrome is now classified as having a variety of conditions related to it.
Cardiometabolic Syndrome is the latest name evolution. It seems that with a better understanding of the amount of caridovascular effects that this syndrome has, the term ‘cardio’ is now being added.
