Diabetes and its Vascular Effects

Diabetes is one of the fastest growing health problems today.  Due to a variety of causes (poor nutrition, lack of exercise, environmental issues, etc.) this disease process has rapidly increased and can create significant problems with the vascular system (blood vessels) of the body.

The vast majority of diabetic cases are due to Type II diabetes.  In the past, this was caused adult onset diabetes or non-insulin dependant diabetes.  However, due to increased rates in the younger population, this disease in no longer just an "adult issue".

Once a person has been diagnosed with diabetes, it is highly recommeneded to have ongoing medical follow up and care.  One health concern is related to the vascular system (blood vessel system) since diabetes makes a significant impact on the microcirculation in the body.  In fact, some of the major associated risks are related to circulation issues including vision problems, reduced would healing and amputations.

This is why it is important to effectively manage your diabetes condition.  Certainly, risks of loss of vision or amputations of limbs is not an appealing result for people.  This is especially true since, with proper management, these risks are greatly reduced.

Take your health seriously.  Educate yourself about diabetes.  Follow up and make the necessary lifestyle changes.  Do these things and you will continue to have a long and productive life.
