What do type II diabetes, obesity and Alzheimers disease all have in common? The answer may be suprising to you.
The answer may be….plaque on the brain.
A small study that was published in the August 25, 2010 issue of Neurology showed some interesting findings.
A group of people were assessed that all had verifed blood sugar problems. The were studied and evaluated after their deaths. Although 16% of these people had sysmptoms of Alzheimers disease while they were alive, a whopping 65% had plaque buildup on their brains.
Certainly, there needs to be more studies about this, however, let’s talk about the possible significance of this.
We are seeing a skyrocketing amount of individuals with blood sugar control problems. Of course, this often leads to weight gain, insulin resistance or Type II diabetes, if not controlled.
Since abnormal blood sugar levels lead to a bunch of other altered blood chemistry problems, it seems reasonable to think that the brain is just as vulnerable as other body parts.
Just as we can acquire plaque buildup inside of the vessels, plaque can also be distributed throughout the brain. This then can possibly lead to conditions such as memory loss or even Alzheimers disease.
The medical approach would be to prescribe some medication to reduce these problems, but can you see how this is just putting a Band Aid on a gaping wound?
I believe there is only one way to reverse this epidemic.
Prevention.
This means that we all must take action with ourselves and inside our own families to make the necessary lifestyle changes to prevent or reverse these health problems that are developing.
What do you think is easier? Paying the price now by putting in some time for good eating, some exercise and some time for stress reduction. Or is it easier to forget about that now and spend your time taking medications and spending your time in front of the medical specialists, hoping that you don’t get worse.
To me, the answer is crystal clear. Taking some small actions now will pay great dividends for you in your future. That’s much more than money can buy.
